Woman speaking in front of people

Join our A.R.E.A.S. Group – Our Recovery Community Education Support Service

We have learned that advocacy and reducing stigma begin with offering support to people who fear speaking up because they may be viewed as “bad” — and who may feel intimidated by and/or do not know how to get help.

MOAR first created the A.R.E.A.S. curriculum over 20 years ago and continues to revise it on a regular basis. The program is peer‑led and driven by participating members, who choose the topic order. It was designed to strengthen participation in recovery and relapse prevention. The curriculum provides information about common practical problems faced by people in recovery and helps connect people to the appropriate resources. The goal of A.R.E.A.S. is to give support and leadership development for people to become involved with MOAR in a personal and meaningful way.

Learn, Engage, and Advocate with MOAR

At the Massachusetts Organization for Addiction Recovery (MOAR), our mission is to bring recovering individuals, families, and friends together as a unified voice to educate the public on the value of recovery from alcohol and other addictions. One powerful way we carry out this mission is by helping our communities understand the policies shaping addiction treatment and recovery in Massachusetts.

Our Regional Coordinators lead Action for Recovery meetings—open, accessible spaces where we break down key legislation, share MOAR’s policy education, and support community members in becoming strong, informed advocates. These conversations often include guest speakers connected to specific bills, offering firsthand insight into what’s happening at the State House.

Whether you’re in recovery, supporting a loved one, or simply want to make an impact, these meetings are a chance to learn what’s being done to support the recovery community—and discover clear, tangible ways you can take action.

Join us in shaping a stronger, more compassionate future for recovery in Massachusetts.

  • Learn how policies, systems, and public processes impact access to prevention, treatment, and long‑term recovery supports.
  • Strengthen advocacy skills to effectively engage with decision makers and contribute to positive change in their communities.
